RED WAVE INCOMING: Republicans gain 40 points in CRITICAL demographic

In a stark contrast to polling in 2018 that showed Democrats with a 40-point lead over Republicans when it came to Hispanic voters, a CBS poll published this week showed Hispanic voters almost evenly split between Republicans and Democrats.

The massive shift in voting preferences in the Hispanic voting bloc has been prefaced by several recent polls and studies that showed Hispanic voters losing faith in President Joe Biden and the Democrats.

The Pew Research Center showed that in 2016 Hillary Clinton won 66 percent of the Hispanic vote compared to Donald Trump’s 28 percent. The CBS poll this week showed only 45 percent of likely voters would vote for Democratic candidates for Congress, compared to 42 percent who say they would vote for Republicans.

A New York Times/Siena College poll earlier this month also showed a tight – almost neck-and neck – race between Republicans and Democrats. “Biden is less popular among Hispanics than any other demographic, including age and gender,” said Fox News of a Quinnipiac poll earlier this year that showed President Biden with a 26 percent approval rating with Hispanic voters as opposed to the two-thirds of Hispanic voters he secured in 2020.

The total number of eligible Hispanic voters is increasing year over year, according to Mark Hugo Lopez, Director of Race and Ethnicity at Pew. Lopez says in the 2022 midterms, “34, almost 35 million [Hispanic voters] is what we project for this year. You can see back in 2020 it was at 32 million; 2018, almost 30 million; 2016, 27 million – the point being is that this number is growing and it’s growing quickly.”

This means Democrats and Republicans will have to fight to clinch the growing demographic amid a variety of national crises, including inflation, which Hispanic voters feel strongly about, according to the CBS poll. The CBS poll showed only 26 percent Hispanic voters approved of Biden’s economic performance.
