Two sources close to the investigation told NBC News on Thursday that Ivanka Trump and Donald Trump Jr. both testified under oath in the last week in the New York civil tax probe into the Trump Organization.
According to the sources, Ivanka Trump testified on Wednesday, while Donald Trump Jr. gave his testimony last week. Ivanka was a former Trump Organization executive and Trump Jr. was the former executive vice president.
The sources revealed to NBC that neither of former president Donald Trump’s children invoked the Fifth Amendment in their testimonies, in sharp contrast to their brother, Eric Trump, who reportedly invoked the Fifth Amendment more than 500 times during his 2020 testimony.
The probe into the Trump organization seeks to determine whether – and to what extent – the Trump Organization may have inflated financial statements for several real estate properties in order to commit tax fraud and obtain financial advantages.
New York Attorney General Letitia James has headed the investigation since its inception in 2020. The recent depositions had previously been delayed due to the death of Ivanka and Trump Jr.’s mother, Ivana Trump, last month.
The former president is reportedly set to testify himself in the coming weeks, after attempting for many months to avoid doing so. The Trump family had previously argued they could not testify because their testimonies could potentially be used against them in another New York criminal investigation they are involved in currently. Former president Trump has repeatedly lashed out against James, claiming the investigation is a politically-motivated witch hunt.
