INSANE Pelosi visits Korean DMZ

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced on Thursday that she, along with a Congressional delegation, had traveled to the Korean Demilitarized Zone during the Speaker’s Asian tour.

The announcement came in the same week as Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan made headlines, causing heightened tensions in the region and in US-China relations. The Chinese government criticized Pelosi for visiting and responded to the visit by continued military maneuvers close to Taiwanese territory.

Pelosi lauded the service of the military members who work in the Korean Demilitarized Zone, the area dividing North and South Korea. “It was a privilege to engage with American heroes in uniform on the ground in Korea, led by General Paul LaCamera, Commander, U.S. Forces Korea. During visits to the Demilitarized Zone/Joint Security Area (DMZ/JSA) and Osan Air Base, we conveyed the gratitude of the Congress and the Country for the patriotic service of our Servicemembers, who stand as sentinels of Democracy on the Korean peninsula,” Pelosi said in a statement on Friday.

The Speaker’s Asia tour is scheduled to continue. “As we proceed with our Congressional delegation visit, we seek to strengthen our partnerships in the region and further a free and open Indo-Pacific.” Stops on the tour include Singapore, which the Speaker visited first, as well as Malaysia, South Korea and Japan. The stop in Taiwan was not officially announced until it occurred.

Elaborating on the visit to the seldom-visited Korean DMZ,  Pelosi said, “Our Members also greeted members of the Korean Honor Guard, whose devoted service is crucial to defending the Korean people.”
