Fox News anchor Bill Hemmer revealed on Tuesday that he had received his free COVID-19 home tests as provided by the Biden administration. After receiving the at-home test, he discovered that the tests were made in China.
According to the Post Millennial, Hemmer applauded the Biden administration and the US Postal Service for sending out the tests quickly. The Fox News anchor reported turning the packages over to read the find print only to notice they were made in China.
Hemmer said, “I got mine yesterday. All four of them came. Congrats U.S. government. US Postal Service did a great job. Got my four tests. And on the back of the fine print, Dana, it is made in China.”
Free shipping of tests began earlier this month as part of a new initiative to get Americans tested and to help with the testing kit shortage during the omicron surge.
The specific tests received by Hemmer were produced by iHealth Labs inc., which is headquartered in Sunnyvale, California. The company has supposedly signed a $1.28 billion contract with the US Army Contracting Command to supply COVID-19 self-testing kits (Reuters).
iHealth Labs inc. has agreed to produce at-home antigen testing kits for 250 million people. This is half of the 500 million proposed by the government. The Biden administration said on Tuesday that not all of the 500 million tests were produced by China.
An administration official told Fox News in a statement, “We are producing as many US-made at-home tests as are available to purchase, while also purchasing additional, FDA authorized at-home tests that are made in other parts of the world.”
