In an hour-long interview with conservative satire site The Babylon Bee this week, entrepreneur and tech magnate Elon Musk covered a wide range of topics, from his taxes to his opinions of ‘wokeness.’
Musk, 50, told The Babylon Bee during the interview he thinks the “woke mind virus” in the United States is “arguably one of the biggest threats to modern civilization.” Musk continued, “Wokeness wants to make comedy illegal. … Do we want a humorless society that is simply rife with condemnation and hate, basically?” Musk asked. “At its heart, wokeness is divisive, exclusionary, and hateful. It basically gives mean people a shield to be cruel, armored in false virtue.”
On the topic of his wealth, Musk had much to say in response to Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), who Tweeted earlier this month “Let’s change the rigged tax code so The Person of the Year will actually pay taxes and stop freeloading off everyone else,” along with a link to a Boston Globe article with Musk as the cover photo about Musk being named Time’s Person of the Year.
Musk took direct aim at Warren, saying, “Yes, she did actually call me a freeloader and a grifter who doesn’t pay taxes. I’m literally paying the most tax that any individual in history has ever paid this year, ever, and she doesn’t pay taxes, basically.” Musk added, “And her taxes and salary is paid for by the taxpayer like me. If you could die by irony, she would be dead.”
“I don’t have any offshore accounts, no tax shelters,” Musk said in the interview, adding that his taxes are so simple H&R Block could do them and it would only take a few hours. Musk shared on Twitter in November that he would pay $11 billion in California and federal taxes this year, which he is required to pay in order to receive compensation over $23 billion in stock options, which would otherwise expire in August.
